Akai DPS12 Frequently Asked Questions

How does the DPS12 compare to the other HD recorders?

One question that crops up quite a lot on the mailing list is how the DPS12 compares to Roland's VS-range of hard disk recorders. Below you'll find a table listing a number of features and specifications between models. It's not an exhaustive list, and there are features in all models which are not listed here, so use it as a guide to see which machines will suit your requirements best.

Please bear in mind that I cannot do subjective reviews between all machines, as I don't own them! Please don't ask me VS880-related questions, I probably cannot answer them. Direct these queries to the VS-users mailing list.

Notes: VS880EX is the upgraded model of the VS880. Many things were upgraded - including optical ins/outs, upping of many locates, channels, eq etc etc. Basically, the EX is a much better machine. Similarly, the VS840 has also acquired EX status - check the Roland website for more information.

There is also a useful page on the Peavey site which has specification overviews of all the currently available HD recorders: HD Recorder Overview
