There have also
been rumours about a new DPS model, the DPS16. One of the Akai distributors
has an Akai
price list with the DPS16 on (not available yet). The only information
at the moment is that it looks like it has 16 tracks and records at
24-bits and a sample rate of 96KHz. The effects board, labelled EB4M
also looks like an improvement on the DPS12's EB2M, judging by the model
number alone.

No, sorry.
How much does
the DPS16 cost?
In the UK it's
being advertised for around £1699.
When will it
be available?
It is available
now. Akai have sent out units for dispatch and stores are receiving
their stocks. If you have ordered one it's probably already on its
way!
Does the FX board
come with the DPS16?
Initially DPS16's
were only going to be shipped in non-FX board equipped versions, with
the FX board equipped versions to follow later.
However, it now
seems that the new FX board is to be fitted to all DPS16's
for only one hundred dollars more than the non-FX board equipped version
(and about 300 dollars less than the FX-board equipped version!).
If you have bought
a DPS16 without the board, you should be able to get the board from
Akai at a cost of an additional one hundred dollars. A bargain!

include the effects board with the purchase of the DPS16 MSRP $2795.00.
The EB4M is still under construction, so the first shipment will not
have the effects board, but the offer still stands; a voucher good
for the effects board will be included with your unit. We anticipate

Can the DPS16
read projects backed up on the DPS12?
Yes. You should
be able to directly reload DPS12 projects, and it may be possible
to go the other way too.
